Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default because the files are about half the size of a JPEG. The catch is that a lot of Windows software, websites and older apps cannot open them.
Do I lose quality?
The JPEG is the same size as the original and saved at high quality, so you will not see a difference. Photos taken sideways come out the right way up.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, for photos up to 40MB. On an iPhone the JPEGs land in the Files app, under Downloads.
